New defibrillator installed in John Owens Building

The Division of Communications and Marketing has purchased a defibrillator which has been installed in the corridor on the lower ground floor of the John Owens Building

A defibrillator is a life-saving device that gives the heart an electric shock when it has stopped in a cardiac arrest. Using a defibrillator (also known as AED) in the first crucial moments of an emergency before an ambulance arrives can increase someone’s chance of survival.

There are now over 40 defibrillators installed all over campus and the University interactive map shows where they are located. 

Milena Cimmarrusti-Davila, Health & Safety Advisor for the Division of Communications and Marketing, said: “One of our H&S goals for 2018 was to purchase a defibrillator for the building after we realised there wasn’t one installed here.  

"Our Interim Director Michael Greenhalgh supported our suggestion and we are delighted that he did. 

"We hope we will never have to use the defibrillator but we can at least be reassured that in the unlikely case of an emergency at work, there is one near our office that we could use and which could potentially save someone’s life.”
