Redevelopment of Contact theatre
09 May 2018
Work is currently underway and the building is set to reopen in the summer of 2019
Contact, based on Oxford Road next to the University campus, is being transformed to cope with the growing demands of the next generation of audiences, artists and young people.
The critically acclaimed theatre and arts venue, which was established in 1972 and is led and programmed by young people, is gaining a £6.65 million makeover. This includes funding from Arts Council England, Manchester City Council and help in-kind from The University of Manchester and Bruntwood.
The funding will create new and improved performance spaces, a purpose-built recording studio for young people’s music projects, an arts and health development space, new offices and a new café.
