Outreach training with Dr Bunhead
08 May 2018
Dr Bunhead – the alias of professional science educator Tom Pringle – will run a two day workshop on 26 and 27 June 2018
The workshop will provide training and ideas in outreach, specifically in reaching children at primary and early secondary school level. Dr Bunhead will discuss:
- design of activities,
- how to fit your plans with what the teachers at schools need and want for their pupil
- how to inspire young people into careers in science and engineering.
Attendance is free and refreshments will be provided, but numbers are restricted. The activities will be suitable for everyone from people experienced in outreach activities, to people wanting to begin but lacking confidence in taking the first steps.
Those who complete the training will be required to deliver at least one outreach session in a widening participation primary school in July. It is likely that those who complete the training will deliver the sessions in pairs. There will be support with arranging these sessions with primary schools.
The application procedure is very simple:
- send an email to Richard Winpenny (Richard.Winpenny@manchester.ac.uk) stating why you want to attend and what you hope to learn from the experience. As places are limited, please do include a well thought-through rationale in your email.
- Please give the email the title “Bunhead Training Event”
The workshops will be held at The Coach House at Elizabeth Gaskell’s House on Plymouth Grove, just five minutes away from the university campus.
