Disability Advisory and Support Service establishes assessment centre

13 Feb 2018

Assessment centre established to enable disabled students to access additional funding

Many disabled students from the UK have access to additional funding to support them during their academic career. To access this funding, their funding body requires them to undertake a formal needs assessment with an accredited and licensed assessor.

The University has recently established an in house assessment centre within the Disability Advisory and Support Service (DASS), completing assessments with disabled students and making recommendations regarding the funding and the support they require. The assessment team is under the leadership of Jonathan Spicer. The Disability Advisory and Support Service is part of the Division of Campus Life within the Directorate for the Student Experience.

The Assessment Centre was recently subjected to its first audit by the accreditation body (Disabled Students Allowance –Quality Assurance Group), which it passed ‘with flying colours’ and, as a result, secured a license to operate for the next 12 months.
