University launches new Wellbeing website

Six Ways to Wellbeing – and other support to help our staff stay happy and healthy
The University has launched a new Wellbeing website to help our staff stay happy and healthy.
As our Lead Champion for Staff Wellbeing, Professor Cary Cooper says: “Wellbeing at work is now top of the agenda for many private and public sector bodies. It has moved from a ‘nice to have’ to a ‘must have’.”
That’s not only because of the rising costs associated with poor mental wellbeing at work, such as sickness absence and poor productivity, which is now around £26 billion in the UK workforce – and that’s not including the cost of the NHS treating people with the common mental disorders of depression, anxiety and stress.
As an employer, we also want to help our staff look after their health and use the support we offer.
The new website includes:
- The Six Ways to Wellbeing – based on a set of evidence-based actions that promote wellbeing developed by the New Economics Foundation in 2008 for the Government's Foresight project on Mental Capital and Well-being
- Full listings for the University’s Wellbeing Week – this year, it runs from Monday, 20 November to Friday, 24 November
- Financial Wellbeing – money worries can lead to higher stress and anxiety levels so here the University provides numerous ways to help save you money
- Resources – including free downloads and online resources and information
- Wellbeing facilities – a guide to what we have here on campus
- Blogs – sharing the latest thoughts and ideas from wellbeing experts and our own colleagues.
The University’s staff wellbeing lead Sarah March said: “A lot of work has gone into our new Wellbeing website. I am incredibly proud that we can offer such a wealth of resources to both staff and students across our campus community – and here we can see that clearly and accessibly.
“We want our colleagues not only work productively but also to enjoy working here and to lead happy, healthy lives. The University’s provision also supports local wellbeing initiatives created in response to the Staff Survey 2017, such as the Faculty of Science and Engineering’s new shared social space and permanent wellbeing feature in its weekly newsletter Beeline.”
