Nick Merriman, Director of the Manchester Museum and interim Director of the Whitworth, will be leaving the University at the end of April 2018 to take up the position of Chief Executive of the Horniman Museum and Gardens.
Nick was appointed Director of the Manchester Museum in 2006 and since then has focused its mission on promoting understanding between cultures and working towards a sustainable world. Over this time visitor numbers have almost trebled to nearly half a million a year. More recently Nick took on additional responsibility as interim Director of the Whitworth.
Nick said: “It has been a privilege to work for over a decade with such a wonderful museum and being part of such a great institution as The University of Manchester. I’m grateful to colleagues for their support along the way and would like to take this opportunity to thank my staff for all their dedication. I’ll be sad to leave Manchester, but I’m looking forward to moving back to London and joining the Horniman, which is a museum that I have always greatly admired.”
