Paul takes on epic Run Round the Residences challenge for local Christmas appeal
27 Oct 2017
From midday on 30 November to midday on 1 December, Accommodation Office Manager Paul Burns is going to run for 24 hours
The 24-hour Ultra Run Round the Residences will follow a 10 km course that will start and finish at Owens Park Hall of Residence, Fallowfield.
The route will cover the University's residential estate running north from Owens Park, up Wilmslow Road and Oxford Road past the Accommodation Office, George Kenyon, Weston and Wright Robinson Halls of Residence. Heading back south passing Liberty Park, Dalton Ellis, Opal Gardens and St Anselm Halls of Residence, down Birchfields Road and turning right on to Moseley Road, passing the University's sports ground and back to Owens Park ... and repeat. And repeat. And repeat ... for 24 hours.
If you would like to donate, then visit Paul’s Just Giving page. All money raised will go to KEY 103's Cash For Kids Christmas Appeal, helping disadvantaged children across Greater Manchester by supporting voluntary and charitable projects.
Paul says: "Financial donations are of course hugely appreciated but I'm also looking for running volunteers to do a 10 km loop with me (or less if that works for you).
"It would be a huge boost for me and keep my spirits up especially during Thursday night, the early hours of Friday morning and the final hours of the run leading up to midday.
"It doesn't matter how fast or slow you can run - my Ultra pace isn't a 10 km race pace!”
Paul has done a number of Ultra runs including 100 km and 100 mile races and he says that having a runner by his side in the night and during the last few hours will help massively with morale.
Alternatively if you see him running while you are out and about on campus give him a shout of encouragement!
If you would like more information, would like to run with Paul or would prefer to donate in cash rather than via Just Giving, please contact Paul via the Accommodation Office, Grove House, Oxford Road, or by phone on 0161 275 2888.
We wish Paul all the best in his epic challenge!
