Temporary changes to George Kenyon Square

The landscaped area of George Kenyon Square between the IT building and the Alan Turing Building has been temporarily taken out of commission

This site is being used as a contractor’s site by Laing O’Rourke during the construction of the Sir Henry Royce Institute for Advanced Materials (between the Alan Turing Building and the Aquatics car park).

Trees removed to facilitate this work have been relocated to Whitworth Park. On completion of the Project at the end of 2019, the public realm space will be fully reinstated.

The Sir Henry Royce Institute for Advanced Materials will be the UK’s national institute for advanced materials research and innovation, and is part of the Government’s strategy to boost economic growth in the North of England. The scheme is a critical component of the University’s Campus Masterplan to create a world-class urban campus at the heart of our city.

Diana Hampson, Director of Estates, said: “I would like to thank staff for their patience and cooperation during the construction period. George Kenyon Square will be fully reinstated at the conclusion of the project.”
