Travelling into Manchester over the Bank Holiday weekend?

Manchester's Pride festival takes place over the Bank Holiday weekend, celebrating the city's diversity and inclusivity

The festivities will start on Friday, 25 August and run through to Monday, 28 August, with 100,000 spectators expected to line the route of the world famous Pride Parade.

This annual event is well rehearsed and the city centre and public transport are both expected to be busier than normal.

Additionally, Manchester United host Leicester at Old Trafford on Saturday, 26 August.

People planning to travel into the city over the Bank Holiday weekend are advised that public transport will be the quickest and most efficient way of getting around. A number of road closures will be in place across the weekend and all traffic will have to find alternative routes. 

Bus services will be significantly affected by the road closures, with services diverted on alternative routes. Metrolink tram services will also be busy and to allow the Pride Parade to pass, there will be a number of pauses in services across the city centre.

Journey times are likely to take longer, so you should plan ahead.
