Mobike, China’s largest bike-share scheme, is coming to Manchester!

App the ready for accessible and affordable transport to tackle congestion and pollution

China’s leading bike-sharing company will be launching in Manchester on Thursday, 29 June.

Mobike, which operates five million bikes in China, will launch with a fleet of 1,000 bikes in Manchester and Salford, with plans to grow that number if it proves successful.

The cycles are high-tech aluminium machines with airless tyres, a GPS tracker, built-in lock and a cashless smartphone app. By downloading the app, finding a nearby Mobike and scanning its code, users can easily pick up the bikes and get riding.

Mobike is a dockless bike scheme, providing an accessible and affordable mode of transport that will help tackle congestion and pollution and make Manchester healthier, cleaner and more fun to explore.

The University is partnering with Mobike to bring the initiative to campus and provide staff and students with the opportunity to make use of the hire bikes whether it’s for work, leisure or study.

The launch event will take place on Thursday, 29 June in Exchange Square all day and is open to the public to see, understand and experience Mobike. 

The Mobike app will be available for download from Thursday, 29 June and there will be a reduced deposit from launch until Monday, 31 July at just £29 (normally £49).
