Incident at Manchester Arena
Dear colleagues
By now you will have heard about the truly shocking events which unfolded at the Manchester Arena last night. Our thoughts and condolences are with all of those who have lost loved ones or been injured or affected in any way.
As we struggle to come to terms with the impact of last night’s events, our University will stand together with the wider Manchester community, offering support and assistance where possible.
I’d also like to echo the clear message this morning from both the Manchester City Council Leader Sir Richard Leese and the Greater Manchester Mayor Andy Burnham that we must endeavour to carry on with business as usual both today and in the following days.
I’d also like to reassure you that we are not aware of any specific security threats on campus, however I would remind you all to remain vigilant and if you see anything suspicious report it to our Security team on 0161 306 9966.
For those staff and students affected by these events, support is on offer from Counselling Service.
If you are concerned about the whereabouts of a loved one you can contact the emergency phone line set up by the police on 0161 856 9400 or 0161 856 9900.
We will also be providing Regular Updates on StaffNet giving the latest details on travel disruption.
Finally, Manchester City Council has opened a Book of Condolence if you wish to contribute a message.
Best wishes,
Nancy Rothwell, President and Vice-Chancellor
