18 May 2017
Professor Tracy Hussell, Director of the Manchester Collaborative Centre for Inflammation Research (MCCIR), has been made a Fellow of the Academy of Medical Sciences, the UK’s independent body representing the diversity of medical science.
Tracy is one of 46 UK researchers elected in recognition of their contribution to biomedical and health research, the generation of new knowledge in medical sciences and its translation into benefits to society. This year’s intake saw 17 women scientists elected which, at 37%, is the highest female cohort to date.
Professor Hussell, who is based in the Division of Infection, Immunity and Respiratory Medicine, commented: "It's a great honour to be elected a Fellow of the Academy of Medical Sciences, particularly as part of such a large female contingent.
"Over my entire career I have been supported by a strong 'scientific family' that was generated around Professor Brigitte Askonas who would have been thrilled by this news."
President of the Academy of Medical Sciences, Professor Sir Robert Lechler PMedSci, commented: "Each newly elected Fellow has made an outstanding impact in the community, contributing to the development of better healthcare – from fundamental scientific understanding to the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of disease."
