Postgraduate Summer Research Showcase 2017 looking for judges

Could you support this flagship event by being a judge for this year’s poster competition?

The Postgraduate Summer Research Showcase is a celebration of the unique and inspirational research being undertaken by postgraduate research students across the University. The event not only provides early stage researchers with a great platform for interdisciplinary networking, but also valuable experience of how to communicate their research to a wide and diverse audience.

This year’s event will be held on Tuesday 27 June and students have been invited to share their research by presenting their work in the form of posters, images, short films or as an interactive display.  

The event team are still looking for judges for the poster category.  Each poster will be viewed by two judges according to specific criteria: one academic and the other someone who is unfamiliar with the subject of the poster. 

Judging teams are made up of academic and PSS staff and play a vital role in the success of the day. Importantly, the judging process also helps students to develop vital presentation skills. As well as presenting on the day students also receive constructive feedback from judges improve their skills and build confidence for presentations at academic conferences in the future.

All you need is to be a good listener, confident enough to ask questions to the presenter and plenty of enthusiasm. If you think you could help please email psrs@manchester.ac.uk by Friday 26 May stating which Faculty/School/Directorate you are from and confirming that you are available on the day between 10.30am – 12.30pm and/or 12.30pm – 3pm. 

Your help and support is very much appreciated by the PhD students managing and running the event.

Even if you don’t feel able to judge please come along on the day to take a look around and appreciate the variety of exciting research being undertaken by our students. Registration and further information about the event can also be on the PSRS website.
