Fire at Paterson Building

08 May 2017

Clear up operation in progress

CRUK MI

A clear up operation has begun at the Paterson Building following a fire on the roof.

Shortly after 10.30am on Wednesday, 26 April 2017, a fire broke out on the roof of the Paterson Building which houses staff in the Cancer Research UK Manchester Institute (CRUK MI) and other researchers from The University and The Christie.

Everyone was evacuated safely from the building.

Work has now begun to assess the extent of the damage and salvage equipment and other research items.

A University-level planning group has been established with three operational groups reporting into it to ensure the work of the Institute can resume as quickly as possible:

  • University-level planning group
  • Space and equipment needs group
  • Research grants and contracts, including implications for staff
  • Core operational group

Each group has representation from the University, Faculty of Biology, Medicine and Health and CRUK MI.
