60 minute confidence – enhance and improve your confidence in an hour
Guest speaker, Davina Whitnall CTP, CIPD, FHEA, Consultant in Training and Development, Coaching and Author, enjoys working closely with postgraduate researchers and developing training for them. She uses coaching and confidence building techniques to help researchers realise their full potential.
Workshop 1: Alexander Technique – Bryan Stephens
Improve your posture! Many of us feel we do not have good posture or even postural problems. This workshop will explore what good posture can look like, how we can move with greater poise and ease and how this will feed into a greater sense of wellbeing and effortless daily activities.
Workshop 2: Managing stress/wellbeing – Sue Field
This workshop will have practical implications of how an understanding of wellbeing and stress management can benefit everyday working life, utilising the University’s “Manchester Six Way to Wellbeing” and the Health and Safety Executive Management Standards.
Workshop 3: Relax with Tai Chi – Colin Hughes
This workshop is meditative, calming and relaxing, aiming to relieve stress and gently mobilise all parts of the body. Continued practice for tai chi promotes physical, mental and emotional balance, develops the ability to concentrate, encourages improved coordination and overall health promoting fitness without strain. This workshop is designed to be accessible, safe and effective for most people.
Workshop 4: Mindfulness – Kate Williams
This workshop will introduce you to the practice of mindfulness meditation by leading you through a few guided meditations. It is designed to be a gentle introduction for those who would like to experience mindfulness first hand and to learn how to incorporate the practices better into their daily lives. The evidence suggests that mindfulness and mindfulness-based approaches can reduce anxiety, worry, depressive symptoms and rumination along with improvements in life satisfaction, wellbeing and self-esteem.
