Colin Bailey appointed President and Principal of QMUL

Professor Colin Bailey, currently Deputy President and Deputy Vice-Chancellor at The University of Manchester and a leading researcher in structural engineering, will take up the post of President and Principal of Queen Mary University of London (QMUL) on 1 September 2017
Colin joined The University of Manchester in 2002 as Professor of Structural Engineering, moving onto Head of the School of Mechanical, Aerospace and Civil Engineering in 2007. He was then appointed Vice-President and Dean of the Faculty of Science and Engineering in 2009, before becoming Deputy President and Deputy Vice-Chancellor in 2014.
His leadership achievements here include the launch of a number of high profile research projects, such as the BP International Centre for Advanced Materials, The National Graphene Institute (£61m), and The Sir Henry Royce Institute (£283m).
Colin said: “Over the last 15 years it has been both a privilege and pleasure to work with the staff, students and alumni at The University of Manchester. I feel a deep sense of pride whenever I consider the achievements of this great University. Its clear impact, internationally, nationally and locally within the City of Manchester, remains second to none. I look forward to ongoing collaboration with friends and colleagues as I start my new role as President and Principal of Queen Mary University of London, a leading and global institution based in the heart of another great city.”
