Playwright and activist Silvanos Mudzvova talks about his work and home country
Silvanos Mudzvova is a Zimbabwean playwright, theatre director, filmmaker and activist who has been involved in the struggle for greater democracy and for LGBT rights in his home country for several years.
Part of a growing opposition movement pushing for Robert Mugabe and the ruling Zanu-PF party to be ousted after 36 years in power, he has endured torture, beatings and abductions.
Now based at The University of Manchester, as part of a year-long residency facilitated by the Artist Protection Fund, a programme of the New York-based Institute of International Education, he is giving an informal, illustrated talk.
Silvanos will discuss his work and the Zimbabwean contexts it has responded to, followed by a Q&A discussion, enabling a dialogue to develop and inform Silvanos's further activities while he is resident here in Manchester.
The event is on Thursday, 9 March, 6-7.30pm at John Casken Lecture Theatre, Martin Harris Centre.
