Olivier Award winning actor takes the stage at Kafka event
09 Feb 2017
Kathryn Hunter will take part in a public lecture at the University, along with the artistic director of HOME Theatre, Walter Meierjohann
They will be joining Professor Freddie Rokem (Tel Aviv University) in an event on theatrical adaptations of the work of Franz Kafka. Kathryn Hunter will be reading extracts from Kafka alongside Professor Rokem’s lecture, ‘Before the Stage: Staging Kafka's Words’, and all three will take part in a question and answer session.
Kathryn Hunter and Walter Meierjohann were the performer and director behind the acclaimed play Kafka’s Monkey, which was performed at HOME Theatre in the summer of 2015 after a sell-out run at the Young Vic in London and a hit world tour. This is an exciting opportunity to see a leading actor and director in conversation with an academic expert on Kafka and the theatre.
The event is organised by the Centre for Interdisciplinary Research in the Arts and Languages (CIDRAL) at the University of Manchester and follows a series of previous collaborations with leading Manchester cultural partners including HOME, the Whitworth Art Gallery, the Manchester Art Gallery and the People’s History Museum.
The event will take place on Tuesday, 14 February at 4pm in the John Casken Lecture Theatre in the Martin Harris Centre for Music and Drama, and staff, students and members of the public are welcome to attend.
