Love giving

09 Feb 2017

In 2017 the UK is celebrating 30 years of payroll giving – a scheme that enables employees to donate to their favourite charity by automatic deductions from their monthly pay

The University of Manchester has supported a Payroll Giving Scheme for over 20 years and since 2014 this has more than doubled in size.  In the past 12 months, over 275 employees have used our scheme to donate over £130,000 to local, national and international charities.

A monthly gift of £5 from your take-home pay to your chosen charity would be automatically boosted to £6.25 for a 20% rate tax payer and £8.33 for a 40% rate tax payer.  This means your charity receives your donation, but also the amount that you’d normally pay in tax – at no extra cost to you.

It’s so easy to sign up to our Payroll Giving Scheme so you can give to any UK registered charity of your choice.

This video from the Charities Aid Foundation explains the benefits of Payroll Giving:

Alzheimer's Society Community Fundraiser for Greater Manchester, Steph Larkin, said: “We're delighted that The University of Manchester have raised money for us as part of their Give As You Earn scheme for staff. Alzheimer’s Society provides a wide range of support in Greater Manchester where nearly 30,000 people are estimated to be living with dementia. As a charity we rely on the generosity of organisations like Manchester University to help us continue our work providing vital local services to people living with dementia and their families.
