Make your support count this #GivingTuesday
25 Nov 2016
Donations to the University come from all sections of our community: members of staff, current students, their families, and alumni of all ages
Gifts to the University provide scholarships for students from disadvantaged backgrounds in Greater Manchester, and from the world's poorest countries. They support world-leading research in areas such as cancer, world poverty, and sustainable energy. Donors also make an impact by supporting individual student-led projects, through the University's crowdfunding platform.
On 29 November, it's #GivingTuesday, a day to give something back to good causes in the midst of the excesses of the festive period. Over the past year, many staff members have chosen to support The University of Manchester, either by making regular gifts, raising sponsorship as part of the Purple Wave, or taking part in the Purple Pig Challenge or Staff Quiz.
Every gift made to the University makes an impact. This year we welcomed over 250 new undergraduate students to Manchester who will receive donor-funded scholarships after completing the Manchester Access Programme. These students come from areas in Greater Manchester where there is little participation in higher education and many are the first in their families to go to university.
We are also celebrating ten years of the Equity & Merit programme, which gives scholarships to outstanding students from Uganda, Rwanda and Tanzania, allowing them to come to Manchester for a one year Masters' course, not available in their home country. Graduates from this programme return home to work in an area which will support their country's development.
This #GivingTuesday, you can support our students and world-changing research by making a gift to The University of Manchester.
