Roy's dyeing to change the face of men's health

07 Nov 2016

Professor Roy Goodacre in the School of Chemistry is sporting a spectacular on-brand purple goatee during November to support men's health charity Movember Foundation

Movember Foundation is the only charity tackling men’s health on a global scale, year round. They’re addressing some of the biggest health issues faced by men: prostate cancer, testicular cancer, and mental health and suicide prevention.

They know what works for men, and how to find and fund the most innovative research to have both a global and local impact. They're independent of government funding, so they can challenge the status quo and invest more quickly in what works. In 13 years, they’ve funded more than 1,200 men’s health projects around the world.

Roy said "Obviously, I won’t be the only staff member to be doing something for Movember. Highlighting Movember may go some way to letting people know that many of us in the University are ridiculing ourselves for a good cause.

"Movember is a good opportunity to remind our staff and students that many of us have alternative faces (quite literally in my case!) and do other things to help society."
