Three projects named in three categories for national prize
Three projects at the University have been shortlisted in a national awards competition for public engagement.
The projects that have been shortlisted in the National Coordinating Centre for Public Engagement (NCCPE) Engage Competition 2016 are:
Our Health, Our Future
This project, involving Manchester Academic Health Science Centre, Public Programmes at Central Manchester NHS Trust, University of Manchester and Manchester Schools Alliance, has been shortlisted in the Health and Wellbeing category.
It enabled secondary school students to work with researchers to address public health research challenges in their local communities.
Older People as Co-Researchers: Developing Age-Friendly Communities in Manchester
This project, which saw the Manchester Institute for Collaborative Research on Ageing (MICRA) working with Manchester City Council, Whalley Range Community Forum, Chorlton Good Neighbours Neighbourhood Care Group, Age Friendly Whalley Range and Chorlton and others, has been shortlisted in the Working in Partnership category.
It involved older people as co-investigators leading a study designed to improve the quality of life in low-income communities and to develop neighbourhoods responsive to the needs of people as they grow older.
The Lived Experience of Climate Change: A Story of One Piece of Land in Dhaka
This project, which involved the Global Development Institute, University of Manchester and University of Dhaka, has been shortlisted in Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences category.
This project explored research through a ‘Pot Gan’, a traditional folk performance which encouraged slum dwellers, researchers, practitioners and policymakers to reflect on the day to day realities of living with climate change in Dhaka.
The NCCPE Engage Competition winners will be announced on Tuesday, 29 November.
