My second chance - the story of an organ donation patient
02 Nov 2016
UoM Busybees WI invite you to find out more about becoming an organ donor
The National Federation of Women’s Institutes (NFWI) are working with NHS Blood and Transplant (NHSBT) in a campaign to make sure everyone lets their family know their organ donation wishes. The NHS and the NFWI have targeted the North West to spearhead this campaign because the North West lags behind the whole of the UK for registered donors. The national average for registered organ donors is 36%, the North West is 29% the national average for blood donors is 4% and 1% for the North West.
The NFWI and NHSBT launched their campaign at Manchester Town Hall in late May. Manchester City Council are actively working with the NFWI & NHSBT in an effort to raise awareness and in so doing, increase the number of registered donors in the North West. The UoM Busy Bees WI have been actively involved in this campaign and have established links with the Student Union. They would like to invite you to attend a lunch time talk on Thursday, 10 November to hear Kerry’s story – Kerry Jenkins is a heart transplant recipient who lives locally and wants to share her story. Kerry’s talk is entitled ‘My Second Chance’ and will take place at 1pm in Mansfield Cooper, G19.
