Manchester Student Homes takes action against hate crime
27 Oct 2016
Hate Crime Awareness Week (10 to 16 October 2016) sought to promote awareness of what a hate crime is and how to report it
Manchester Student Homes has worked in partnership with Manchester City Council and Greater Manchester Police (GMP) in order to deliver a targeted campaign designed to promote awareness of hate crimes amongst the student population.
Here in Manchester, we take action against six types of hate crime:
- Disability
- Race
- Religion or belief
- Sexual orientation
- Transgender identity
- Alternative subculture
Anyone who is a victim of a hate crime should call the police on 101 or the independent charity Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111. Alternatively, report it online or download and use the True Vision app - and always call 999 in an emergency.
Manchester Student Homes is also a Hate Crime Third Party Reporting Centre - which means that all MSH staff have received specialist training from GMP on the area of hate crime - and would be happy to help anyone who has witnessed or has been a victim of a hate crime. Funding for this event was provided by Manchester City Council.
