Record your own videos and upload them to the video portal

24 Oct 2016

Upload a video for a chance to win a Rode professional quality microphone

Member of staff delivering a presentation

We have bought a software package called Techsmith Relay, allowing you to record a presentation or video on your computer or mobile device, which is then automatically uploaded to the Podcast Video Portal. The Techsmith Relay software is free for any member of staff to use.

After an initial release to the eLearning community, a number of additional tutorial videos began appearing from academic colleagues, such as 'How To' guides specific to their students’ studies which could then be added to course series in the video portal or embedded within their Blackboard course.

Win a microphone

To encourage uptake of Relay, we are giving away a Rode professional quality USB microphone worth £150. The winner will be drawn from a list of anyone who has added a Relay recording to the video portal by Monday 21 November. The competition is open to University of Manchester staff only.

Commitment to supporting disabled students

From September 2016, in order to respond to national changes affecting the provision of support for disabled students and in line with University policy, lectures scheduled to be attended by students registered with the Disability Advisory and Support Service (DASS) will be automatically recorded by the Podcasting Service, if the student has a specific recommendation for recording lectures as a reasonable adjustment.

If your lecture(s) are opted-out of the recording process and there is a DASS-registered student on the course who requires recordings as part of their reasonable adjustment, a recording will automatically be made and distributed only to that student. The recordings will not be available to other students.

If you do not opt-out of the recording process but choose to hold recordings for editing, a version of the recording will be made available to students registered with DASS within 24 hours of the lecture being given. As soon as you edit your lecture, it will overwrite and replace the DASS recording and be available to the whole class.

You will be notified by email by the Podcasting service if a DASS-registered student with this recommended adjustment is scheduled to attend your lecture, or if there are changes during the year which removes the requirement for the adjustment to be made.
