First aid team honoured for world record breaking CPR training - and more

The University has won the UK Heart Safe Educational Establishment of the Year 2016.

University colleagues were presented with the award at the Hand on Heart - Heart Safe Awards.

The University was honoured for a range of work including setting the Guinness World Record for CPR, when more than 800 people took part in a CPR relay in aid of European Restart a Heart Day.

The University has also increased the number of defibrillators on campus from eight, five years ago, to 52 today; and it has worked with UoM Volunteering and the NW Ambulance Service NHS Trust to give heart start instructor training to students, who will in turn teach life support to people in the local community.

University First Aid Coordinator Janet Makin said: “I am so proud to have the amazing, collaborative work that has been carried out by University staff, students and NWAS over the last few years recognised at a national level, and it was lovely that staff and students were able to attend and collect the award on behalf of everyone.”
