Art goes large at Sam Alex
02 Oct 2016
A giant photograph taken by a refugee has been installed on the exterior of the Samuel Alexander Building as part of the Journeys Festival organised by ArtReach
The project aims to raise awareness of the city's role in the refugee crisis by displaying huge photographs taken by Manchester's refugee community – the images will be installed on the city's most iconic buildings (of which our Samuel Alexander Building is one).
The Professional Services Unit in the Directorate of Estates and Facilities organised the installation, which involved using a 'cherry-picker' to raise the photograph up to the first floor level of the building's modern extension, facing towards Oxford Road. Head of Professional Services, Brent Wills, said of this unusual challenge: "The Professional Services team were delighted to be able to assist in making this installation possible."
Some of the Festival programme is happening at Manchester Museum.
