Annual pay award 2016/17

19 Sep 2016

The University Senior Leadership Team has agreed to implement the draft New JNCHES* settlement for 2016/17 on the recommendation of UCEA**

The University acknowledges that the 2016/17 round of pay negotiations currently remains unsettled, and that UCEA remains keen to achieve a settlement with the trade unions on all the elements, however, the UCEA Board is clear that the base pay offer is not going to increase further. The offer is already at the limits of affordability for many HE institutions and the entire sector now faces the additional economic uncertainties and concerns that are arising from the UK vote to leave the EU.

The University does not believe it is reasonable to expect our staff to wait for any protracted period beyond the 1 August when they expected to receive their pay increases.

Therefore, with effect from 1 August 2016, a 1.1% increase will be applied to all University payscales.  Employees on points 1 – 7 of the 51 point pay spine will receive higher base pay uplifts ranging from 1.6% to 3.1%.

University staff will receive the pay uplift in October and backpay will be received in November.

The 1.1% base pay increase for staff on point 8 and above brings the average pay increase this year to 2.7% when combined with the incremental pay progression available to around half the employees covered.
