International concert pianist Murray McLachlan is Head of Keyboard at Chetham’s School of Music and a Senior Tutor at the Royal Northern College of Music.
This recital focuses on Chopin’s 24 Preludes, a great Janus-faced masterpiece that has eternal fascination for musicians and music lovers alike. Next to that we have the late Ronald Stevenson’s (1928-2015) rarely heard contrapuntal cocktails based on the Preludes in his collection of neo-Godowskian commentaries entitled Pensées sur des Préludes de Chopin as well as Ferruccio Busoni’s 9 variations on Chopin’s C minor Prelude.
2016 is the 150th anniversary of Busoni’s birth.
