Three major prizes for Education lecturer's PhD thesis

08 Aug 2016

Dr Steven J. Courtney, lecturer in the Manchester Institute of Education, has received three major prizes for his PhD awarded in December 2015

Dr Steven Courtney

The thesis, entitled Investigating school leadership at a time of system diversity, competition and flux, won the folowing prizes:

  • The American Educational Research Association Division A 2016 Outstanding Dissertation Award;
  • The British Educational Leadership Management and Administration Society Thesis Award 2016;
  • The British Educational Research Association Doctoral Thesis Award 2016.

Steven's research illuminates understandings of the contemporary neoliberal and neoconservative policy landscape in education. It does this through exploring the leadership of discursively significant school types within an original intellectual mapping of the increasingly and purposively diversified education provision in England.

The thesis was submitted under The University of Manchester regulations for Alternative Format, and consists of six outputs (five journal articles and one book chapter), of which five were published at the time of award.
