Video portal update

A new addition to the Podcasting Service has just gone live which allows you to upload videos to Faculty and School channels in the video portal:

  • Teaching staff can now upload videos directly into a podcast series for their courses.
  • If your course has no podcasts, you can still upload your own videos if you wish to do so.

Analytics

You can now see how many views your recordings have received in the past academic year. This can help you identify the recordings that students are watching most, which may indicate, for example, material that they are having difficulty understanding.

This data is displayed in a graph, which can be accessed by pressing the blue ‘i’ button in the bottom left corner of either a single video or series of videos in the video portal.

Commitment to supporting disabled students

From September 2016, in order to respond to national changes affecting the provision of support for disabled students and in line with University policy, lectures scheduled to be attended by students registered with the Disability Advisory and Support Service (DASS) will be automatically recorded by the Podcasting Service, if the student has a specific recommendation for recording lectures as a reasonable adjustment.

If your lecture(s) are opted-out of the recording process and there is a DASS-registered student on the course who requires recordings as part of their reasonable adjustment, a recording will automatically be made and distributed only to that student. The recordings will not be available to other students.

If you do not opt-out of the recording process but choose to hold recordings for editing, a version of the recording will be made available to students registered with DASS within 24 hours of the lecture being given. As soon as you edit your lecture, it will overwrite and replace the DASS recording and be available to the whole class.

You will be notified by email by the Podcasting service if a DASS-registered student with this recommended adjustment is scheduled to attend your lecture, or if there are changes during the year which removes the requirement for the adjustment to be made.
