Traffic management arrangements for the coming week
As part of their commitment to keep everyone informed about the ongoing bus priority work on the Oxford Road corridor, TfGM have sent us an updated look-ahead schedule to help keep you updated on the work and its impact on the surrounding roads for the period to 11 July.
As with any major engineering project, there may be changes to the schedule, but any amendments are likely to be the result of unforeseen circumstances arising. TfGM will of course update us if any changes do take place.
Below are the traffic management arrangements in place for the week commencing Monday, 4 July 2016:
Phase 1
Oxford Road (Hathersage Road to Denmark Road)
- Northbound access restrictions for general traffic at Hathersage Road. This is a permanent scheme change.
- Localised pedestrian management of carriageway in the vicinity of The Whitworth Art Gallery. Alternative footway available.
Phase 3
Oxford Road (Denmark Road to Grafton Street)
- Cycle lane closure off carriageway.
- Localised pedestrian management off carriageway.
- Single lane running in both directions.
- Permanent relocation of controlled pedestrian crossing point outside Thorncliffe House and Manchester Royal Infirmary (MRI), situated immediately to the north of Denmark Road junction.
- Bus stop outside MRI closed southbound. Nearest alternative is oppositive Whitworth Park.
- Bus stop outside Grove House closed northbound. Temporary bus stop in front of Manchester Academy.
Phase 4
Oxford Road (Grafton Street to Dover Street)
- Devas Street to Spa Street - partial footway and nearside bus lane closure outside UoM Students' Union Building, Bus stop relocated temporarily to outside Manchester Academy.
- Southbound bus lane closure in sections. bus stops will be temporarily relocated where possible to do so.
Oxford Road/Dover Street junction
- Southbound bus lane closure in sections. Bus stops will be temporarily relocated where possible to do so.
Oxford Road/Dover Street to Bridgeford Street
- Southbound bus lane closure in sections. Bus st ops will be temporarily relocated where possible to do so.
Oxford Road (Kilburn Building frontage)
- Localised pedestrian management with soutbound nearside lane closure.
Phase 6
Cavendish Street/Rosamond Street area (MMU campus)
- One-way traffic on Rosamond Street away from Oxford Road (between Oxford Road and Jenkinson Street). Permanent scheme change.
Phase 2
Oxford Street (Whitworth Street to Portland Street
- Northbound third running lane on Oxford Street closed indefinitely to prevent vehicle grounding on newly constructed central island at Portland Street junction.
- Localised pedestrian management to reconstruct west footway south of Chepstow Street.
Future works
The Oxford Road phasing plan has been updated, with the delivery of Phase 6 brought forward to enable TfGM to carry out low impact signing and lining work during the quieter summer months. The timescales shown on the new plan reflect the main contractor’s works; there may be instances where enabling works are carried out by statutory undertakers outside of the timescales shown, but these will be covered in the standard look-ahead tracker.
