New training workshops for P&DR reviewers are under way

07 Jul 2016

More than 800 colleagues trained up and and 689 P&DRs have taken place

P&DR

More than 800 members of PSS staff who conduct P&DRs for others have attended the new mandatory P&DR training for reviewers and 689 P&DRs have taken place in the online system.P&DR meetings are the single most important way in which the University ensures that each and every individual (or team in some areas) is able to perform to the best of their abilities and fulfil their professional aims and ambitions.

In order to help reviewers to conduct P&DRs following the launch of the University's new process, training is being provided for them which covers the philosophy, new roles and responsibilities and the supporting IT system. By the end of June, 855 Reviewer Managers had undertaken the training and a further 68 are booked on future courses.

So far, the training has been well received, with 97% of Reviewer Managers who responded to their post-training questionnaire strongly agreeing/agreeing that they understood the revised P&DR process, while 95% of Reviewer Managers strongly agreed/agreed that they felt able to deliver the revised P&DR process.

Typical comments from course participants were:

  • "Really informative workshop with great advice for the new P&DR process."
  • "As a new member of staff at the University it has helped me to understand the P&DR requirements. Having done reviews in other companies I never had any formal training, so this helped to answer all the questions I had about the process."
  • "As a fairly new manager, I’m inexperienced at carrying out P&DRs so found the case studies really useful."

If you are among the 3% of staff who said they didn’t understand the process or the 5% who didn’t feel able to deliver the process, you are encouraged to speak in confidence to a member of the Staff Learning and Development team. They will aim to support you or offer clarity and address some of the concerns you may have.

If you're a Reviewer Manager who hasn't already undertaken this essential training, please ensure that you do so before carrying out your P&DRs, which should be completed by the end of July.

Meanwhile, 1,417 members of PSS staff have accessed the Get The Best FromYour P&DR eLearning which provides essential guidance for reviewees about to undertake a P&DR. Under the new process, the reviewee will be able to ensure their review is effective by preparing for it and contributing to the meeting. Reviewees can prepare further by downloading the new P&DR form in the online P&DR system.
