Crowdfunding at Manchester

The University launches its own crowdfunding platform for students, staff and alumni
This week, the University’s own crowdfunding website has gone live. The platform gives students, alumni and their friends and families the chance to support good causes and projects at the University. Crowdfunding is a way of raising money by asking lots of people to give small amounts in return for rewards. If people like the sound of a project they can back it with a financial pledge. Only if the project attracts enough pledges to meet its target are donations taken. The project can then go ahead, and donors will stay connected through regular email updates from the project team.
Our platform is available for students and University staff to set up pages to campaign for funding. You can find it at: www.manchester.ac.uk/crowdfunding
We currently have three projects pitching for support, which are all fantastic causes with student leaders who are working to have an impact on wider communities. Please visit their project pages and support them with a pledge or by sharing with your contacts.
The platform is supported by the Division of Development and Alumni Relations, who can offer advice and guidance on setting up and promoting projects to potential donors. As donations will come to the University (and we’re a registered charity) we’re able to use Gift Aid from donations to cover payment processing costs, so Project Creators will receive 100% of their donations.
If you have an idea which you think would be suitable for crowdfunding, or know some students who do, contact us at: crowdfunding@manchester.ac.uk
