Cut-off date for umist.ac.uk or man.ac.uk email addresses

On Monday 23 May, we will be decommissioning the man.ac.uk and umist.ac.uk email domains, which were replaced with the manchester.ac.uk domain several years ago.
These legacy email domains are shown to be a target for large amounts of junk email, with 90% of emails on average more likely to be junk or malicious, rather than legitimate. The decommissioning of these addresses is part of The University’s Cyber Security Programme to improve our response to cyber threats.
This means that after 23 May 2016, any email sent to an address ending in @man.ac.uk or @umist.ac.uk will not be delivered. The sender will receive an automatic response advising that the email address is not in use and giving instructions on how to ascertain your @manchester.ac.uk email address instead. This auto-response will remain in place for 2 years.
Note that this change does not affect @cs.man.ac.uk addresses used by The School of Computer Science.
For 4 weeks in the run up to the decommissioning, senders of messages to a man.ac.uk or umist.ac.uk email address will receive an auto response advising that the email address will soon be retired and how to find the correct address.
Anyone who actively uses or publishes their email address with either of these domains should update their records and ensure their contacts are aware they should use the email address ending in @manchester.ac.uk.
