Richard Marais is cycling for Chris Marshall
12 Apr 2016
Richard, who is Director of the Cancer Research UK Manchester Institute, is cycling the Fred Whitton Challenge in May in memory of a very influential British cancer research scientist - Chris Marshall
Chris was an important mentor to Richard and a huge influence on the field. He was an outstanding scientist who devoted his life to studying the disease that ultimately claimed his life.
Richard said "I was privileged to spend many years working with Chris at the Institute of Cancer Research. His death is a tremendous loss to the cancer research community. Chris was a fantastic scientist, an excellent colleague, a very generous man, and a much-loved friend."
As Chris was a talented cyclist who excelled on the hills, the 112 mile Fred Whitton - which takes in all the highest Lakeland passes - is an appropriate challenge to tackle in his memory.
Donations will be divided between The Institute of Cancer Research, where Chris spent the majority of his working life, and Cancer Research UK, who funded much of Chris' work.
