Student Emily Woodroofe is raising money for Mountain Rescue Torridon and Kinlochew who saved her life
Emily was in an accident while out walking in Scotland in which her leg was crushed under a rock.
Her life was saved by her friends who freed her from the boulder she was crushed under and by a number of services, incuding Rescue 951, GPs from Torridon, Mountain Rescue Torridon and Kinlochewe, and the NHS. Unlike the other services, Mountain Rescue Torridon and Kinlochewe receive no funding except from donations from the public. At a moment’s notice, they drop their normal day jobs and get to the scene as quickly as possible, including providing helicopters and specialist equipment and personnel.
Despite the excellent efforts to save her life, Emily’s injuries were so severe her leg will need to be amputated. During the course of her treatment, where doctors attempted to save her life, she has needed five blood transfusions. However, without Mountain Rescue, blood donors and everyone else who has helped, she could be in a much worse position.
Emily is writing a blog about the accident and subsequent treatments she is receiving and is asking everyone to donate to Mountain Rescue and to donate blood.
