Levenshulme Market returns
06 Apr 2016
Levenshulme Market CIC will be running a series of Tuesday food and drink markets at the University, with a launch event on Tuesday, 12 April (11.30am-2.30pm)
Following a successful and well-attended pilot market just before Christmas 2015, the operators of the thriving Levenshulme Market will be running a street food and produce market on every Tuesday during term time, on the tree-lined Bridgeford Street at the heart of the UoM campus. Its location, right next to Oxford Road and Manchester Museum, means that the markets are likely to be a popular lunchtime choice for students, staff and visitors to the University.
Market dates
The food markets will run every Tuesday from 12 April until 7 June, with two additional markets on 12 July and 19 July during graduation – ideal for students and their families as they celebrate their achievements. As well as providing visitors and users of the UoM campus with a tempting range of street food options, it is also hoped that as the market runs through the exam period, it can help students take a welcome foodie break from their stressful schedules.
The market will take place every Tuesday in term-time between 11.30am and 2.30pm on Bridgeford Street, M15 6FH, right next to the Manchester Museum.
Street food, fresh produce and drinks
The Tuesday food markets at UoM promise a veritable feast of local street food and produce. The traders, many of whom are already a hit at the community-run Levenshulme Market, include:
- Fritto Italian Street Food – a fellow social enterprise serving panzerotti and arancini
- Wallace & Sons – serving Gyoza, Bao and kimchi
- Fat Annie’s Hot Dogs – a selection of specialist sausages with unique toppings
- Olo Kitchen – serving Polish specialties including pierogi dumplings
- What’s Your Beef – renowned in the North West for their epic gourmet burgers
- Ginger’s Comfort Emporium – luxury ice cream in a range of unique flavours, including the salted caramel speciality ‘Chorlton Crack’
- Lush Brownies – a sell-out sensation at the pilot market and at Levy Market with up to 20 flavours of gooey chocolate brownies
The market will also offer the chance to buy staples such as freshly baked bread, loose leaf tea, ground coffee and fresh meat.
The chance to run a regular food market at UoM marks further growth for Levenshulme Market, which was launched as a social enterprise in 2013 with a monthly market on the train station car park in Levenshulme. In 2014 the market started operating weekly on Saturdays and in 2015, was revealed as one of just three finalists for Best Food Market in the BBC’s Food and Farming Awards. Also in 2015, Levenshulme Market CIC awarded £15,000 in grants to innovative and entrepreneurship projects in Levenshulme – using profits earmarked as part of their remit as a social enterprise.
