WATCH: If she's not a Scientist I'll eat my hat!

01 Apr 2016

Professor Danielle George, Professor of Radio Frequency Engineering and Vice Dean in the Faculty of Engineering and Physical Sciences, took the stage at a recent TEDx Manchester so show how her research using radio waves has significant impact on the way we farm, fly and design cities, and so much more

During the course of the talk she looks at how she engineers the tools for scientific discovery: one of the 14 Engineering Grand Challenges of the 21st century. But she questions if the greatest challenge getting more women into engineering?

Daniele was described by the Guardian as one of 2014’s heroes in science she delivered the hugely prestigious Royal Institution Faraday Christmas Lecture. Originally from Newcastle, Danielle has a long history in Manchester. She completed her BSc and MSc at The Victoria University of Manchester based at Jodrell Bank Observatory, and her PhD at UMIST. She is involved in both the $1bn Square Kilometer Array and the $1bn Atacama Large Millimeter Array telescope. She has worked with NASA and ESA on the development of instrumentation to explore the Big Bang. Danielle thoroughly enjoys teaching her knowledge to students and is passionate about raising public awareness of the positive impact that engineering and sciences can offer.

This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community.
