Fake "Employee Recognition" email

Stay safe from the latest virus and phishing attacks.

As with any email system, hoax messages occasionally manage to get past our junk mail filters.

A recent example is an email that a number of people have received, entitled "Important Employee Recognition Award". This email is a fake, and it led to a website which asked for staff login details.

While this particular website has now been blocked from the University network, it is incredibly important to be vigilant of:

• Any emails from people or organisations that do not appear to be completely genuine, or contain attachments that you do not trust or know the origin of. Delete any suspicious emails.
• Emails which purport to be from the University of Manchester, but contain unusual content.

How can I check where something is from?

You can check a link by hovering over it – the resulting address should be displayed for you either directly on screen as a ‘hover tip’, or in the bottom left corner of your web browser.

If you see or receive links to any suspicious sites/attachments, do not visit or open them.

I clicked on this link in this email – what should I do?

If you have entered your details into the website from the ‘Employee Recognition’ email, change your password immediately through the IT Account Manager. if you have any concerns, contact the IT Support Centre.
