Statistics to make us proud from Student Volunteering Week
It’s our Student Volunteering Week, when the University and the Students' Union thank students who give personal time to take part in activities that benefit others and the community – and encourage others to do the same.
Week in week out, many of our students mentor school children, provide essential support to older people, supply food to people who are struggling to make ends meet, help address climate change and provide business advice to small charities.
This not only supports our local communities, it improves the students’ confidence, skills and therefore their employability.
And to prove they are truly #VoluntHeroes, here are some amazing statistics from a new infographic:
- 2,937 students recorded that they had volunteered in community-based roles
- 819 students took part in the Manchester Leadership Programme, completing 39,792 hours
- 1,632 students benefitted their peers by leading societies and as student reps, completing 7,315 hours
- 1,722 students have volunteered through Students’ Union projects such as RAG and Access All Areas
