The Greater China Awards are held each year by UK Trade and Investment which works with UK based businesses to ensure their success in international markets through exports.

The Education award was presented to Alliance Manchester Business School, in honour of its consistent success in China and its clarity of focus on its future revenue streams. Examples of success, not only in penetrating the market but also in maintaining long-term relationships, can be evidenced by some of the School’s executive education programmes being delivered for organisations in the Greater China region, notably:

  • delivery of a PGDip Executive Management for the Industrial and Commercial Bank of China (ICBC);
  • annual training provision for officials from the China Ministry of Finance: The collaboration dates back to 2001 and at least 200 officials from the Ministry have received executive education at Alliance MBS as a result;
  • annual training provision for senior managers from China Development Bank: Alliance MBS deliver an annual training programme, with 50 senior managers being trained to date;
  • annual training provision for BaoSteel: Delivery of a training programme for senior managers from within BaoSteel, 60 managers have received executive training at the School to date.

Now in its eleventh year, the award ceremony acknowledges North West organisations that have made a significant contribution to developing businesses that have strong collaborative links within the Greater China region.

Dil Sidhu, Chief External Officer at Alliance MBS, commented: “We are delighted to have won this award after being shortlisted alongside seven other outstanding organisations. This highlights our ongoing working relationship with China, which dates back to 1986. Our centres in Shanghai and Hong Kong also demonstrate our strong commitment to the region.”

Alliance Manchester Business School has not only penetrated the Greater China market, but has also developed and maintained key political and business contacts in the region.

Dil added: “There are almost 2500 alumni in the region and we maintain strong links with them through a number of channels, including networking events and newsletters. The alumni base also act as ambassadors by championing the school within the area.”

Clive Drinkwater, North West regional director for UK Trade & Investment commented: “The quality of applications for the Greater China Awards continues to grow, and I am once again incredibly proud of our region’s achievements in this exciting and thriving market.”
