Our “gallery in the park” one of only three in UK shortlisted for European Museum of the Year
The Whitworth art gallery – which has just celebrated the first anniversary of re-opening following a £15 million refurbishment – has been shortlisted in the VisitEngland Awards for Excellence.
Stretching back over 25 years, the awards are the highest accolade in English tourism. They recognise best practice and excellence in customer service and celebrate the very best in quality and innovation.
The winner will be announced during English Tourism Week, on Tuesday, 8 March.
The Whitworth has also been shortlisted in the European Museum of the Year Awards – one of only three in the UK.
The awards, founded in 1977 under the auspices of the Council of Europe, recognise excellence in the European museum scene and encourage innovative processes in a museum world which still took the more traditional view to focus exclusively on collections rather than on their use for the benefit of society.
The winner will be announced in April.
