06 Jan 2016

University lecturer joins forces with her neighbours to help those fleeing their war-torn homeland

Drama lecturer Victoria Lowe and her Chorlton neighbours are joining forces to raise £5,000 for the International Rescue Committee, a charity working tirelessly to assist Syrian refugees in camps across Europe.

The group have organised ‘a night out to remember’ featuring music and comedy at Chorlton Irish Club, on Friday, 22 January.

Local school children are also getting involved through events being held at local schools and there will be other fundraising activities, to be publicised on the group’s Facebook page.

Victoria said: “This is one of the hardest times of the year for refugees and we hope to raise funds for essential supplies and also to show our solidarity with people affected by the crisis

“We were stirred into action by the images of the children caught up in this appalling man-made disaster. Our community project will raise funds to assist those trying to alleviate the terrible hardships being suffered at the moment.”
