Universities Superannuation Scheme is changing in 2016

04 Jan 2016

From April 2016, USS will provide Defined Benefit (DB) pensions on a Career Revalued Basis (CRB) basis, alongside a new Defined Contribution (DC) section

USS 2016 For the Future

The changes to USS will be introduced in two phases:

  • In April 2016, the new CRB section for all members will open and contribution rates will increase to 18% for the University and 8% for members;
  • In October 2016, the new DC section will open to all active members of USS. Members earning above £55,000 per year contribute automatically to the DC section on their earnings above that level . In addition, all members, irrespective of their salary, will have the opportunity to take up a 1% matching contribution from the University.

USS has launched a dedicated website to guide both members and employers through the phases of scheme changes which begin on 1 April 2016:

Eifion Morris, Head of Member Communications for USS, will be visiting the University on 20 January 2016. Eifion will explain, in plain English, what the scheme changes mean and answer any questions you may have.

Eifion's information session will give you a broad understanding of how the changes will affect you from April 2016 and how your past contributions and benefits will be treated.
