Why did brilliant nuclear physicist disappear through Iron Curtain?

30 Nov 2015

Hear Bruno Pontecorvo’s story at this month’s Schuster Colloquium

Bruno Pontecorvo, a brilliant nuclear physicist and father of neutrino astronomy, disappeared through the Iron Curtain at the height of the Cold War.

To this day, the mystery remains – why did he flee so suddenly, was he a brilliant spy as well as a physicist, and what secrets did he take with him to the Soviet Union?

Professor Frank Close, of Oxford University, will tell the story from his new book ‘Half Life’ and reveal the role of the infamous traitor Kim Philby in the affair at this month’s Schuster Colloquium.

The event will be held on Wednesday, 2 December at 2.30pm in the Rutherford Lecture Theatre in the Schuster Building.

No pre-registration required.
