Len’s legacy for Chemistry school staff

Academic and support staff from the School of Chemistry gathered in September for a very special occasion - the official opening of the Ross Rest Room.

The room is named after lab technician Len Ross who sadly died last year.  Len’s wife Sheila, two children and grandchildren were there to mark the official opening and naming of the room.

The recent Staff Survey highlighted a need for a place where staff can take a break away from their desks, as well as being able to get together informally.  Refurbishment of the room - a former archive store chosen because of its convenient location - was achieved at minimal cost, with all furniture, including noticeboard, tables and chairs,being recycled from elsewhere within the university, via the Furniture Store.

Following a speech by Head of School Administration Rachael Barker, the room was officially opened by Sheila, who cut the ceremonial ribbon which had been placed in the doorway. 

The intention is that the room will develop and become the a hub for various staff events, such as charity cake sales for example, as well as providing an area where people can simply go to relax, away from the demands of the office environment. 

All School of Chemistry staff are welcome to use the room, which can be found at G.029E, Chemistry building.
