Martin fundraises in honour of his son – and diabetes research
A University colleague is taking part in Manchester’s Run in the Dark to raise funds for diabetes research in honour of his son, who was born with the condition.
Division Office and Finance Co-ordinator for Student Support and Services Martin Kloos is also supporting the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF), the charity that helped his family cope with the situation.
Martin explains: “My son was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes at the age of one and a half. He is now five and has to live with disruption every day of his life.
“It makes me so very proud how he copes every day with the inconveniences of this disease. A cure can't come soon enough and would completely transform his life.”
He adds: “When my boy was first diagnosed, JDRF were so very helpful. The free pack that then sent to us really helped us to cope and understand what was happening to him and to us.
“They are kindly supporting my run and have even sent me a free running vest which I will proudly wear for the event. They are a wonderful, caring company who are at the cutting edge of Diabetes research.”
Martin will be taking part in the Run in the Dark in Manchester on Wednesday, 11 November.
