Local unemployed people told how to get ahead at the interview game
A workshop at The Works, designed to give local unemployed people some insider tips on how to get that job, played to a packed house.
Stephen Johnston, HR Partner in the Faculty of Life Sciences (FLS), found the workshop ‘Getting ahead at the interview game!’ was a big hit.
He was able to dispel some myths about what employers are looking for when recruiting staff and to give some insider advice on the do’s and don’ts at interview.
Stephen said: “I really enjoyed chatting with the Works’ clients.
“The opportunity to make my experience and professional knowledge available to people looking for work was really fulfilling and I’m looking forward to doing it again. For me it was interesting to see how the things we take for granted are sometimes outside of the experience of people resident in local communities.”
Steve Grant, Assistant Director of HR who leads The Works, said: “We have had great feedback from the people who attended the workshop. I think that Stephen’s warm natural style removed barriers which led to a really dynamic, interactive event.
“This was the first of a series of workshops which see employers help broaden the experience of people who are looking for work.”
