WATCH: Flashmob demonstrates how to 'Stay Strong, Stay Steady'
09 Nov 2015
On International Older Person's Day (1 October 2015), a pan-European project led by the University delivered flash mobs and/or took part in strength and balance exercise classes to raise awareness of falls prevention
The Prevention of Falls Network for Dissemination (ProFouND) is an EC funded consortium which aims to reduce falls through active healthy ageing. Led by Professor Chris Todd from the School of Nursing, Midwifery and Social Work, and working with 21 partners from across the European Union, the project delivers an annual campaign to raise awareness of falls prevention.
The 'Stay Strong, Stay Steady' campaign involved over 500 older and younger people from across nine EU countries (England, Germany, Greece, Norway, Portugal, Scotland, Spain, Sweden and Wales), plus a special guest contribution from their advisory partner in Australia.
Chris Todd said: "We are really pleased by the response from across Europe to this initiative. The enthusiasm and commitment of the older people who took part shows the value of keeping active in older age.”
The Manchester group trained in the sequence for a week before the event and, as well as delivering the flash mob, contributed to a flash mob film which will raise awareness of falls prevention through active healthy ageing:
